چکیده

echnologies to counter the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction by rogue governments and international terrorist organizations are a top national priority. One of the top development requirements is for highly sensitive and specific detection technologies for biological warfare agents. This article describes the development of sensors for field detection of weapons of mass destruction using an advanced time-offlight mass spectrometer system. This sensor system has the potential to provide high speed, sensitivity, and specificity across a wide range of biological agents, chemical agents, explosives, and contraband materials. In addition, the system is being engineered to be rugged, small, lightweight, and low power so that it can be deployable in the field. (

Use of laser-triggered gold nanoparticle-grafted dual light and temperature-responsive polymeric sensor for the recognition of thioguanine as anti-tumor agent

Objective(s): Today, there is an urgent need for improved sensor materials for drug sensing and effective monitoring and interventions in this area are highly required to struggle drug abuse. The present study aimed to synthesize a thioguanine-responsive sensor based on a nanocomposite consisting of AuNP-grafted light- and temperature-responsive poly butylmethacrylate-co-acrylamide-co-methacryl...

Flexible Foot/Ankle Based on PKM with Force/Torque Sensor for Humanoid Robot

This paper describes the development of a novel humanoid robot foot/ankle based on an orientation Parallel Kinematic Mechanism for intelligent and flexible control. With three identical Universal-Prismatic-Spherical prismatic-actuated limbs and a central Universal-Revolute passive limb, the PKM can perform three degrees of freedom rotation motions. In order to enable the humanoid robot safely t...

Design, Modeling, and Construction of a New Tactile Sensor for Measuring Contact-Force

This paper presents the design, modeling, and testing of a flexible tactile sensor and its applications. This sensor is made of polymer materials and can detect the 2D surface texture image and contact-force estimation. The sensing mechanism is based on the novel contact deflection effect of a membrane. We measure the deflection of the membrane with measuring the strain in the membrane with emb...

Nothing to Fear but Fear Itself? Nuclear Proliferation and Preventive War∗

When does nuclear counterproliferation succeed? When does it lead to preventive war? We argue that as the ratio between (i) the effect of nuclear acquisition on the balance of power and (ii) the costs of preventive war increases, counterproliferation becomes more successful but mistaken preventive wars also become more likely. We apply this logic to comparing the dynamics of proliferation durin...
